Sidemount Diver

Started on 29 September 2023

Diving with a sidemount means using a configuration that allows you to handle one or two bottles that you place on either side of your body, instead of wearing it on the back that is commonly referred to as a backmount. So it’s a difference in the layout of your bottles. It allows a unique buoyancy control that results in a more hydrodynamic profile with less resistance to underwater movement making movement easier and more efficient. Higher levels of comfort because the equipment and the kit (BCD) fit exactly to the body of every diver in any size or shape, especially for women !!!

Greater comfort for divers with disabilities because either they or their companions can handle the bottles in the water separately from the BCD. The bottles can be worn more comfortably, after first entering the water. After the dive they can again manage the weight of the bottles and the weight belt separately, since this is the most difficult and painful part of the dive to get out of the water.

Greater safety when it comes to gas management as the shutters, the first stages, the manometers and the backup air supply are in front of a point that you can see and catch at any time.

More comfort for scuba diving since the bottles alone (without buoyancy controllers – BCD), take up much less space. Divers are transported wearing ONLY their buoyancy regulators and this means even more safety for them during cruising.

Protect your boat and your waist since now divers do not need to go up wearing their devices, nor do you have to leave your waist pulling them out of the sea. They are hooked to a rope on the sides of the boat. This means less weight in recovering the bottles from the water before returning or saving energy and avoiding injuries between two dives in one day.

When referring to sidemount divers you will generally see someone with two bottles stuck to the side of their body. Now this configuration is ideal for technical diving, let alone for recreational divers. It is this point that makes diving with a single bottle ideal. As usual you need a regulator consisting of a first stage, a spare air supply source and a manometer, with the difference that now everything will be arranged on you in a straight line, without protruding anything, gaining better buoyancy, hydrodynamics and optics contact with the first stage and shutter something that increases the degree of security.

What the course includes;

At the Sidemount Diver level  the student learns the equipment and its setting in order to be able to organize and perform diving with a side hook bottle(s). But the most important thing is that the candidate will be trained at the same time in the right way of thinking, prevention and dealing with problems both on the surface and under water.

  • 1 theoretical lesson
  • 4 dives

Course duration:

The course is based on the degree of understanding and performance. The education develops according to the receptivity and the assimilation of the courses. This allows you to move at a pace that is comfortable for you.

Course duration 3-4 days.
